The New York Botanical Garden, a National Historic Landmark and one of NYC’s premier cultural institutions, seeks a full-time Botanical Garden Aide to join their Horticulture department.
The application deadline for this position is 12/28/2009.
Selected applicants will receive a letter of invitation to take a written exam in January.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Botanical Garden Aide, under direct supervision, assists Foreman of Gardeners or members of the gardening staff in the planting and maintenance of the botanical collection. Performs as directed, mowing, pruning, potting, planting, spraying, watering, etc. of the plant collections around the grounds as required. Performs general maintenance work such as, unpacking of plants and materials, light moving etc. Operates machinery as called for in the performance of the above duties such as, mowers, sprayers, pruners, etc. Performs general gardening duties requiring the use of hand tools such as, shovels, shears, etc. and performs minor repairs requiring minimal skills to small equipment such as shears, sprinklers, etc.

Job Requirements

Education, training, experience:
|
|
|
• High School Graduate or GED.
• A minimum of 6 months of experience in assisting with gardening or landscaping work, or some knowledge of gardening or landscaping.
• Valid Driver’s license preferred.
• Flexibility to work different schedules
